Game recap
Packers @ Jets
2026 Wk 2 · NYJ 17, GB 20
Green Bay trailed by 10 in the fourth, gained 199 yards all day and still won it in overtime.
Green Bay erased a 10 point fourth quarter deficit and won with 199 yards of offense. Since 1999 only one other comeback that large was won on fewer than 200.

The database holds 311 games since 1999 in which the winner trailed by 10 or more at some point in the fourth quarter. Two of those winners finished under 200 yards: the 2006 Bears at Arizona, and Green Bay in this game. The Packers also know the other side of this list. The eighth row is Cleveland's comeback against them a year ago.
Why it matters. A double digit fourth quarter comeback normally requires the offense to pile up yards in a hurry. Green Bay did it with 98 yards after the third quarter, because the points were set up by a 38 yard pass interference flag, a 63 yard punt return and a roughness penalty in overtime. That is the mechanism that makes this cohort so small: the rally has to be built by defense, special teams and penalties rather than by the offense.
Green Bay's chance of winning fell to 8.2 percent with 12:27 left. The Packers then scored the final 13 points, and the tying possession gained 3 yards.

| 4 | 1:15 | After the stop | 64.7 |
| OT | 5:26 | Lining up the 26 yard kick | 98.1 |
The touchdown drive was kept alive by a 38 yard defensive pass interference penalty on first and 25. Skyy Moore then returned a punt 63 yards to the Jets 19, and the offense gained 3 yards before Trey Smack tied it from 34. New York went for it on fourth and 1 at the 50 with 1:20 left and Braelon Allen was stopped for no gain. In overtime Geno Smith was sacked on the first two snaps, the Jets punted on fourth and 18, and Green Bay needed four plays to reach the 8.
Why it matters. The win probability path shows where the game turned, and the two largest swings in regulation were a punt return and a fourth down stop, not an offensive play. The punt return alone moved the Packers from 30.1 to 56.2 percent. The fourth and 1 decision at midfield is the other hinge: a conversion there lets New York drain the clock for a winning kick, and the stop handed Green Bay the ball with the better side of a tied game.
The league's second best third down offense of 2025 went 1 of 9. The 27th ranked one went 9 of 19, and lost.

The two offenses traded identities. Green Bay converted 48.5 percent of its third downs last season and 11.1 percent here. New York converted 34.9 percent last season and 47.4 percent here, which let the Jets run 21 more plays and gain 86 more yards. Neither offense finished with positive EPA per play.
Why it matters. Third down is where Green Bay's offense normally separates itself, and losing that edge explains the 50 play, 199 yard afternoon. The Jets used their conversions to hold the ball rather than to score: they faced 19 third downs and still finished with 17 points. Nine Packers attempts is a small sample, so the rate itself will not hold, but it is the reason this game had to be won by the other two phases.
The Jets gained 244 yards through three quarters and 41 after that. Three of Green Bay's four sacks came in the fourth quarter and overtime.

New York's best quarter was the third: 128 yards, a 43 yard catch and run by Breece Hall, and the go-ahead touchdown to Garrett Wilson. From there the Jets managed 2 first downs on 18 plays. The fourth quarter included an aborted snap, a 10 yard sack, and the failed fourth and 1 at midfield. Overtime opened with sacks of 6 and 9 yards and a false start that left third and 30.
Why it matters. Geno Smith finished 27 of 41 for 247 yards with no interceptions, a line that reads like a winning one. The split shows why it was not: once the fourth quarter began, the offense produced 41 yards. The Jets lost 29 yards on four sacks for the day, 25 of them after the third quarter. Green Bay's own offense barely improved over the same span, so the comeback window was opened by the Packers' pass rush rather than by Jordan Love.
Jordan Love averaged 5.0 yards per attempt, his lowest mark in any of his 28 regular season wins with at least 15 throws.

Love went 16 of 29 for 145 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, and took 3 sacks. The gap to his next lowest winning game is almost a full yard per throw. Christian Watson drew 11 of the 29 targets and caught 4 of them for 41 yards. Both touchdown passes covered 6 yards or fewer.
Why it matters. Green Bay's wins under Love are usually efficient passing days, which is why a 5.0 sits alone at the bottom of this list. The clean part of his stat sheet is the part that mattered: no interceptions in a game decided by 3 points. The heaviest volume went to a connection that averaged 3.7 yards per target, which is where most of the missing efficiency sits.
Green Bay's last two road games against the Jets both went to overtime, and the Packers won both. The 3 point margin is the closest of the eight meetings since 1999.

The teams have met once every four years since 2002, and the road team has now won six of the eight games since 1999. Green Bay has won its last three trips to New Jersey: 9 to 0 in 2010, 44 to 38 in overtime in 2018, and 20 to 17 in overtime here. This was also the Packers' seventh overtime game since Matt LaFleur took over in 2019.
Why it matters. A series played once every four years has almost no roster continuity, so the pattern is a curiosity more than a trend. The useful read is on the 2026 Packers: their 2025 season included an overtime tie at Dallas and an overtime loss at Chicago, and this time the extra period went their way. For the Jets it is a second straight home meeting with Green Bay lost after regulation ended level.
