Game recap

Eagles @ Bears

2026 Wk 3 · CHI 27, PHI 7

Andy Dalton's only throw was a goal-line interception as Case Keenum led Chicago past Philadelphia.

Andy Dalton's only throw was a goal-line interception: the sixth such one-pass game since 1999

Rare

Philadelphia had first-and-goal at the Chicago 1 midway through the second quarter, down 7-0. Saquon Barkley lost a yard, then gained nothing. Jalen Hurts had been hurt on a scramble earlier in the drive, so Andy Dalton took third-and-2 from the 2 and threw for Dontayvion Wicks. Dillon Thieneman intercepted it in the end zone for a touchback. It was Dalton's only pass of the game. Since 1999 a player whose only pass attempt of a game was intercepted at the opponent's 5 or closer has happened six times, and only Koy Detmer in 2000 and Dalton were quarterbacks.

Why it matters. The interception cost Philadelphia 5.57 expected points, the worst single play of the game by that measure, and cut its win probability by 13.3 points. A drive that reached the 1 would have tied the game; instead it ended with zero points and Chicago's ball at the 20. Philadelphia scored only seven points all day, so that one empty trip inside the 5 was a large share of what the offense left on the field.

Chicago's 20-point win is its largest over Philadelphia in 18 meetings since 1999

Milestone

Before this game Chicago's biggest win over the Eagles in the database was nine points, 24-15 in Philadelphia last season. This one doubled it. It is also the first time since the 2010 and 2011 seasons that the Bears have beaten Philadelphia in back-to-back meetings. The Eagles still lead the series since 1999, 12 wins to 6, including both playoff games.

Why it matters. The series has mostly been close when Chicago wins: its first five wins since 1999 came by 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9 points, while Philadelphia's blowouts (54-11 in 2013, 31-3 in 2017) set the lopsided marks. A 20-point Bears win reverses that pattern, and it came with Case Keenum at quarterback instead of Week 1 starter Caleb Williams.

Case Keenum's 2-TD, no-pick, rushing-TD day was his first like it since 2017

Comparison

With Caleb Williams absent from the box score, Keenum made his first appearance with 15 or more attempts since Week 16 of 2023. He went 24 of 34 for 247 yards with touchdown passes to Luther Burden III (8 yards) and Kalif Raymond (41 yards), no interceptions, and a 1-yard touchdown run. Only one other game in his career had two touchdown passes, zero interceptions, and a rushing touchdown: Minnesota at Detroit in 2017. The 20-point margin ranks third among his 67 regular-season games with 15 or more attempts.

Why it matters. Chicago used three different passers in its first four games (Williams, Keenum and Tyson Bagent), and Keenum's 2-touchdown, 0-interception line matched Williams's Week 1 as the cleanest of those four starts. His 67-game sample with 15 or more attempts splits 32 wins and 35 losses, so a 20-point win sits near the top of a long career, most of whose best days came in the 2017 Minnesota season.

Philadelphia's second half: 20 plays, 62 yards, three first downs

Split

The first half was even. Philadelphia had 186 yards on 27 plays and a 51.9% success rate, and Hurts's 1-yard run with one second left cut the gap to 10-7. After the break the Eagles' offense fell to 20 plays for 62 yards, three first downs, a 25.0% success rate and -0.651 EPA per play, with two sacks and a fourth-down interception. Chicago's offense went the other way, from +0.010 to +0.178 EPA per play.

Why it matters. A 20-play second half is what happens when an offense cannot stay on the field: Chicago ran 33 plays after halftime and Philadelphia only 20, so the Eagles had few chances to answer even before the third-quarter interception. Philadelphia's best quarter, the second, ended with points only on the last snap before halftime, which left a trailing team with no margin for the collapse that followed.

Chicago scored the last 17 points after Philadelphia's touchdown at the half

Trend

Hurts's touchdown with one second left in the second quarter made it 10-7 and was the only time Philadelphia scored. Chicago answered with a 48-yard Cairo Santos field goal, a 41-yard Keenum touchdown pass to Kalif Raymond, and a 1-yard Keenum run with 7:21 left. Between them, Philadelphia's possession ended with a Hurts interception on fourth-and-5 at the Chicago 46.

Why it matters. The game stayed within one score until 5:55 of the third quarter, and the swing came from Chicago's ability to finish drives while Philadelphia could not. Chicago ran 19 plays inside the 20 to Philadelphia's nine, and it also left points on the board early, with a fourth-and-3 incompletion at the Philadelphia 3 in the second quarter. The 41-yard Raymond touchdown was the only scoring play of the day from outside the red zone besides the 48-yard field goal.
