Jefferson entered the league as a UDFA out of Oklahoma in 2013 and has now logged 13 NFL seasons — including the resurgence year in 2025 with the Chargers, where he's posting 38 tackles and 7 PDs as a rotational safety/big-nickel piece for Jim Harbaugh's defense.

The 2019 ACL tear in Baltimore effectively ended his Ravens run, and he bounced through SF, NYG before resurfacing with LAC. The 2025 line is his best in 6 years.

Jefferson's 428 regular-season tackles is the kind of count you only get with longevity — the bulk of it (225) came in his Arizona prime from 2013-16. The Baltimore years added another 121 before the 2019 knee injury knocked him out for nearly two full seasons.

The 2025 LAC line (38 tackles, 7 PDs) is his best work since the Ravens prime — at age 33, in year 13.

2016 with Arizona — 73 tackles, 13 TFL, 5 PDs. A safety with an LB-level run-stopping profile.

Anomaly

Jefferson's contract-year 2016 in Arizona was the apex of his career: 73 tackles, 13 TFL, 2 sacks, 5 PDs. The 13 TFL is the rare number — only a handful of safeties post double-digit TFL seasons in any given year. It earned him a 4-year, $34M deal from Baltimore that offseason.

In the Ravens' defense he was used differently — more deep-coverage, less in the box — and the TFL totals dropped to 7-7-0 before the knee injury.

From 2019 ACL tear to 2025 starter — a 6-year comeback few safeties pull off in their 30s.

After tearing his ACL in 2019, Jefferson spent 2020 out of the league entirely and his next three seasons (2021-22, 2024) were rotational at best — only 44 tackles combined. The 2025 jump to 38 tackles in a single year more than doubles each of those single-season totals.

At 33, post-ACL, with a new defensive scheme — this is the rarest comeback arc in the league: a safety who got hurt at his peak, sat for a year, bounced through two cities, and is now starting again half a decade later.

7 PDs in 2025 — tied for his career best, matching his 2015 contract-year line.

Pass deflections drop off fast for veteran DBs. Jefferson posting 7 PDs at age 33 ties his career high from a decade earlier — usually a sign that ball-skills are surviving the athletic decline.
