Chris Boswell: facts drawn from the play-by-play.
Pittsburgh's all-time field-goal leader since 1999 — and the gap is widening.
MilestoneSteelers career FGM (since 1999, reg season)
| Kicker | FGM | FGA | FG% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Boswell | 305 | 347 | 87.9% |
| Jeff Reed | 206 | 252 | 81.7% |
| Shaun Suisham | 130 | 147 | 88.4% |
| Kris Brown | 80 | 103 | 77.7% |
| Matthew Wright | 16 | 18 | 88.9% |
305 made field goals as a Steeler — nearly 100 more than the second-place name on the list (Jeff Reed, 206).
The accuracy gap is meaningful too: he's converting at 87.9% to Reed's 81.7%, on 95 more attempts. By the time he retires, he'll likely sit ahead of every other Pittsburgh kicker in the modern era on both volume and rate.
11 seasons, two distinct careers: pre-2021 vs the long-range era.

FG% by season — the 2018 valley and the 2024 peak

|---|---|

| 2017 | 92 |
| 2018 | 65 |

| 2023 | 94 |
| 2024 | 93 |
| 2025 | 84 |
The 2018 valley (13-of-20, 65%) and 2022 dip (20-of-28, 71%) are the two anomalies in an otherwise steady high-80s/low-90s career. 2018 was a groin injury year (the FGA total tells the story — he attempted 20 vs his career average of ~32). 2022 had no injury explanation, just a bad year.
Everything since 2023 has been a renaissance: 3 straight seasons of 27+ makes, his first 60-yarder finally happened in 2025, and his 2024 was the season he led the NFL in FGM (41).
NFL FGM leader in 2024 — at age 33.
Rare2024 NFL FGM leaders
| Kicker | FGM | FGA | FG% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Boswell | 41 | 44 | 93.2% |
| Brandon Aubrey | 40 | 47 | 85.1% |
| Cameron Dicker | 39 | 42 | 92.9% |
| Jason Sanders | 37 | 41 | 90.2% |
| Ka'imi Fairbairn | 36 | 42 | 85.7% |
41 made FGs in 2024 led the NFL — and he did it at 93.2% accuracy, both totals matching or exceeding any season of his career.
The context that makes it rare: Boswell turned 33 mid-season. At an age where kickers usually transition into split duties or retire, he was getting more attempts than any other kicker in the league and converting at his career-high rate. The 41-makes total is the most by any Steeler in any single season.
From 50+ yards, he's a 65% kicker — but in 2024 he was 13-of-15.
Split50+ yard FGs by season
| Year | FGM 50+ | FGA 50+ | FG% 50+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015-2020 | 9 | 12 | 75.0% |
| 2021 | 8 | 9 | 88.9% |
| 2022 | 7 | 9 | 77.8% |
| 2023 | 6 | 7 | 85.7% |
| 2024 | 13 | 15 | 86.7% |
| 2025 | 9 | 11 | 81.8% |
The career FG% from 50+ sits at 65% (52 makes on 80 attempts) — solidly average for the modern era. But the distribution by year is heavily back-loaded: he attempted just 12 FGs from 50+ in his first 6 seasons combined, and 44 more in the last 5 seasons.
The 2024 spike (13-of-15) is the highest 50+ make total of his career. He's not the same kicker he was in 2018 — he's more aggressive, more accurate, and his coaches trust him from a yard line they wouldn't have during the Tomlin-Bell era.

| Season | 50+ FGM |

3rd-most 50+ yard FGs made since 2015 — behind only Prater and Jason Myers.
ComparisonCareer FGs made from 50+ yards (since 2015)
| Kicker | 50+ FGM |
|---|---|
| Matt Prater | 60 |
| Jason Myers | 53 |
| Chris Boswell | 52 |
| Ka'imi Fairbairn | 51 |
| Brandon McManus | 51 |
| Justin Tucker | 51 |
Across the data window, his 52 career FGs made from 50 yards or longer ranks third in the NFL — behind only Matt Prater (60) and Jason Myers (53), and tied or ahead of names like Justin Tucker and Brandon McManus that the long-FG narrative is usually built around.
The sub-leader: 15 of those 52 came in 2024 alone. The 50+ rank started moving up that year. If 2025 ends with a few more, he'll catch Myers and challenge for the top spot before retiring.
Career-long made FG didn't come until year 11 — at age 34.
AnomalyAcross his first 10 NFL seasons, Boswell's longest made field goal was 59 yards (twice — 2020, 2022). Then in 2025, at age 34, he finally connected from 60.
Most kickers' career-long is set within their first 3-4 years; the leg either has the range or it doesn't. Boswell added range as he aged, which is the opposite of the typical aging curve. The 2025 60-yarder is also the first time a Steelers kicker has made a 60+ FG in the database era.
